Deep Calleth Unto Deep

God allows us to hunger, thirst and sometimes have great depression, so we will know that man does not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds from His mouth.

Deep calleth unto Deep, a phrase taken from Psalm 42 vs 7. The meaning just as Deep as the phrase looks. Quoting the verse fully it says: Deep calleth unto Deep at the noise of Thy waterspouts: all Thy waves and Thy billows have gone over me.

Just taking it at face value one can see that the writer was in great distress. What caused his distress we may not know, but he was in anguish of soul, and it made him to cry deeply. He didn’t just cry aimlessly, but He cried to the only One he knew and believed could deliver him.

That whole chapter is one of the writer acknowledging that God is the one that satisfies our souls. As the dear panteth for the water brooks, so pantenth my soul after Thee oh God. For it is only God that can quench his thirst.

So what exactly does Psalm 42 vs 7 mean? It is God helping man and bringing man to the place where “man has no other choice”, but to turn to Him the only true salvation. Left with ourselves we always seek for salvation and help in place that have none. We would rather dig a cistern that can hold no water, or spend money to buy water that would not quench our thirst. All the while our loving Heavenly Father stretches His hand to us with the Living Water that would quench our thirst and satisfy us. But no we must labour and fail, so we want.

But that is exactly what God now uses as a means to reach us. He deliberately amplifies the losses we experience so that we will quickly learn that those other things are vanity.

God is the only true One that satisfies our souls and hearts, for we were created with eternity in our hearts and only Eternity can fill eternity.

Are you currently experiencing a situation that is beyond you? You’ve tried and tried. Why not turn to the Lord and say Lord, You are my desire. He only can fill you to satisfaction.
